WHAT IS BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ focuses on Grappling and Ground Fighting Techniques that enable a weaker smaller person to use leverage in order to defeat a larger stronger opponent.  There is no striking in Jiu Jitsu and the main benefit of that has to do with the way Jiu Jitsu practitioners train or spar in classroom settings.  The focus on submissions without the use of strikes while training allows practitioners to practice at full speed and with full power, resembling the effort used in a real competition or resisting opponent.

Why study BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU (BJJ)

In the early days of the UFC Jiu Jitsu made it very clear that a smaller weaker opponent was not to be taken lightly. Jiu Jitsu prevailed in the octogan and showed that with leverage anything is possible. This display skyrocketed jiu jitsu to the spotlight and the Gracie name became an overnight sensation in the US. Due to the “gentle" aspect of jiu jitsu, it can be practiced close to full speed and full force on a daily basis without inflicting serious injuries on its practitioners.  Striking arts even wrestling and judo eventually begin to take a substantial toll on practitioners and which can (not always) be avoidable in jiu jitsu.
